Flight patterns over Vancouver

Today was a nice day for a brisk walk on the seawall. I thought about bringing my camera because you never know what you will see these days, with the Olympics starting about a month from now. I settled on my phone instead.

That was a mistake I'll try not to repeat if I'm to make any kind of decent blog effort here! Because lo and behold, this huge military looking plane comes swooping down English Bay, does a big circle around downtown, then back, then around again for another good look. I know it's all Olympics preparation, but lamented the strange feelings of apprehension one gets in this post terrorist age.

Anyway, here is the lousy photo my phone took; I promise to take my real camera with me now.

It did another big loop in the Bay and appeared to come close to this point near Third Beach. My phone did a poor job indeed in capturing it. It was a queer looking plane, big and red, all belly, with two front/top engines and no apparent landing gear. Very retro looking. I haven't been able to figure out what sort of plane it is, despite my superior google skills.

I'm not the only one reacting to strange planes over our city. However, I prefer to think of it as a sort of airborne paparazzi.
